Andalusia is one of Simona's most favourite areas in Spain.
This Almeria Yoga venue (main house pictured left) is on the edge of one of Europe’s most remote and beautiful natural parks, the Cabo de Gata, one of the last unspoiled stretches of Spanish coastline.
It’s an amazing landscape of perfect half-moon bays, hidden coves, bizarre volcanic rock formations, and spectacular flora and fauna – a wonderful wild coastline, which you will have seen more times than you think as the backdrop in many films including Indiana Jones, Lawrence of Arabia, and Sergio Leone’s famous spaghetti westerns!
This yoga venue is in a peaceful, isolated location, but within walking distance of the lovely traditional local village, which can be seen across the valley at the foot of the spectacular mountain backdrop.
Pools
There are two pools, one at the house (pictured right) and one in the cortijo area.
The one at the main house is an ‘eco-pool’ the water is continually filtered through reed and water-plant beds and is crystal clear.
The pool at the cortijos is a ‘normal’ pool. Both pools are minimally treated to ensure cleanliness without harming the delicate eco-system. It makes for a lovely swimming experience.
Things to do:-
Between morning and evening yoga classes there is plenty of time to relax by the natural swimming pool or take a massage with a local therapist.
Or you can head off to the beach for a day. There are sandy, secluded and unspoiled beaches to be found within a 30 minute drive away. Parasols and a picnic can be provided for a day out swimming and sunbathing. There are several sandy, secluded and unspoiled beaches which can be found within approximately 20 minutes drive from the venue, inside one of Spain’s largest National Parks, the Cabo de Gata. Almeria has the sunniest weather for yoga retreats in Europe and beaches are usually warm enough to be enjoyed from May through to the end of October.
There are also several charming coastal villages within the park, which make an idyllic location for a meal out at one of the many restaurants.
Groups usually arrange a half-day excursion during the week, which typically includes beach, shopping and dinner out.
If you want to explore the area on foot there are many scenic walks to the local village of Nijar, perfect for a drink al fresco in a picturesque setting and offers a variety of craft shops, local specialities include ceramics, rugs and baskets. For more of an adventure you can walk up to the mountain village of Huebro via the Ruta del Agua, following the spring-fed river to the pool at the source of the water where you can have a refreshing swim!
